Well, it's here....school is back in session! It seems like each year the summer gets shorter and shorter but the good news is that you survived the first week. And when I say survived you have only come out of it with aching feet, a scratchy throat, and more exhaustion than you ever thought your body could handle. But you know what, you also came out of it with a smile!
And just like in years past, the beginning of a new school year brings one more thing....a budget crisis. Yes, it is that time of the year again. Time to overload our our brains with thoughts of potentially getting a small raise while constantly looking through every newspaper to see if they have changed their minds or if there is any new information. It is also around this time that a lot of teachers, at least in my state, begin to feel under appreciated, frustrated, and angry. But before you log onto Monster.com to find a new job, let me say a few things to you.
I know that this blog is usually dedicated to talking about the students and how we need them and they need us but today I want to talk directly to the teachers. Teachers....we need each other!
There are so many times in this career when we feel stressed or under-appreciated, or just ready to cry. It takes a very unique individual to be a teacher and sometimes it might feel like nobody understands. But I am here to tell you that there are people who understand....other teachers! Listen people, we have to stick together. Whether it is the legislature who is punching us in the gut, a principal who is breathing down our necks, or students who are just trying our patience, we need to be there for one another.
Teachers have to have a united front. We are one of very few who get each other. We understand the stress of the long hours, we get the happiness we feel when we get through to a student, and we understand the dedication it takes to truly love kids that aren't our own.
As important as it is for us to help our students, it is equally as important to help one another. Have each other's backs, laugh with one another, make our daily jobs a great place to be! The bottom line is, if we start turning our backs on one another, we won't get any where. So this coming school year I am asking one thing of my fellow teachers....unite as one and show each other you care. Because as long as we are a team, nobody (not even the government or overbearing parents) can bring us down.
Remember, we are all superheroes to our students, so now let's be superheroes to one another! HAPPY NEW SCHOOL YEAR!
