Well, you made it.....summer is finally here. At the beginning of the year we are so gung ho about the school year. By April, we are ready for it to end. Then the last day comes and you are filled with mix emotions. Happiness for a well deserved break yet sadness for the emptiness you will feel as you say goodbye to people who have become your own children and family.
As I sit here on my honeymoon in the beautiful Caribbean, I can't but think about my kids. I mean every teen I see reminds me of a student and I start telling a story. (My hubby simply tolerates it!)
But although I am happy, I am also worried. Are they ok? Are they eating? Will they make the right decisions. And after the worry, a though hits me. If we have done our job as teachers, they will be ok. Not just the job of teaching the curriculum but the job of caring for them, teaching them life lessons, and ultimately loving them as our own. If we did this then we can be assured that they will be ok because we have made a positive impact on their lives.
And as I sit here and read a text message from one of my students, I know I did my job. Happy summer to all my teachers and my "kids".
