No I am not excited about seeing "Finding Dory." Ok well I am very excited but that's not what this post is about. This post is about the dreaded time of year we are in...the last thirty days of school!!!!! Dun, dun duuuunnnn......
You know what that means...field trip, field day (a lot with fields), picnics, oh and the most evil mind sucking thing of all...TESTING!!!!! This time of year we are all tired and burned out. We visit teachers pay teachers more now than ever because our minds can't remember our classroom key let alone know how to write a lesson plan! So how do you keep the students going if you are burnt out as well? Just remember that for some this is the most important time!
This is the time when some of our students are counting down to the three months of yelling they will hear, or the three months of one, if any, meal a day they will eat, or three months of unbearable heat they will endure without any relief. They might also be thinking about how for three months they won't have a safe place, or someone to tell them they are proud, or someone to say "I love you".
For some of our students summer doesn't mean vacation, BBQs, and family time, it means fear and loneliness. Even the ones who you think might make you go bald over the next 30 days drom ripping your hair out need love. In fact most of the time they are the ones who need it most.
So as hard as it is to not give up now, don't because your students need you now more than ever. Be there for them and let them know that, even if it's just for 30 more days, they are loved and they are safe!
